Early Awareness

My path into medicine and conservation began with an early awareness of the connections between human well-being, animal life, and the natural world. Growing up in close proximity to livestock agriculture, I began questioning the role of animals within human systems at a young age. By eleven, I chose to become a vegetarian, guided by the belief that health and compassion could coexist without harm to other living beings.

This conviction laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to education, advocacy, and service.

Illness + Perspective

In early adulthood, a diagnosis of a brain tumor profoundly reshaped my understanding of health and resilience. Following surgery, I temporarily lost the ability to walk and move independently. The long process of recovery required relearning fundamental physical functions and navigating the vulnerability that serious illness can bring.

This experience deepened my respect for the power of compassionate medical care and strengthened my resolve to pursue medicine. Having lived both as a patient and as a physician, I developed a perspective grounded in empathy, prevention, and the broader determinants of well-being.

Medical Training

During my medical training, a growing concern emerged regarding the limited emphasis placed on nutrition and prevention within conventional healthcare systems. As chronic disease rates continued to rise, the broader environmental and agricultural influences shaping dietary patterns often remained underexamined.

This period marked my transition from vegetarianism to veganism, informed by both ethical reflection and scientific research. Evidence linking dietary patterns to chronic disease processes reinforced my understanding that meaningful prevention must extend beyond clinical treatment to address systemic drivers of illness.

Expanding the Scope

Years of clinical practice provided valuable insight into both the strengths and limitations of traditional healthcare models. While treatment remains essential, a system focused primarily on managing disease without addressing root causes risks perpetuating preventable harm.

Exposure to conservation-driven public health initiatives further broadened my perspective. Observing approaches that linked ecosystem protection with human wellbeing demonstrated that medicine could play a role in safeguarding entire living systems.

This realization marked a shift from focusing solely on individual patients to addressing the conditions that shape health outcomes globally.

Present Mission

Today, my work centers on advancing conservation medicine and the One Health approach. This framework recognizes that the well-being of humans, animals, and ecosystems must be addressed collectively to prevent suffering and sustain life.

My efforts focus on education, advocacy, and supporting initiatives that promote plant-based living, protect animals, and advance environmental stewardship. By bridging clinical expertise with systems-level awareness, I seek to contribute to a more compassionate and sustainable future.
